Key Amenities and home features!

The house is available as a private – self catering house – From Friday to Monday. (A minimum of two nights stay is required.) Checking in at 2pm and checking out at 10am.(Alternative days can be arranged based on availability)

LATE CHECK OUTS MAY BE CHARGED AT PRO RATA NIGHT RATE.

Outcrop Country House is designed as a sculpture in its own right, offering playful and interesting angles in its setting – a bird lovers paradise, being close to a natural wetland!
  • The house is a non smoking house.
  • No parties, hen or stag events.
  • No pets are allowed.
  • No Children under 12 years of age.

A cleaning/damages fee will be levied for guests who smoke in the house, bring pets, damage the property or soil and stain the carpets, blankets and rugs.

Outcrop Country House, accommodates 6 guests, with the option of two rolled up mattresses, that can used by teenagers.

The open plan Living area, includes a fully equipped modern kitchen, with a central working station that includes a gas hob and electric oven, a microwave, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, and all necessary cooking and dining cutlery, crockery and appliances. (The refrigerator is suitable for a two night stay)

There is a fireplace and underfloor heating. The underfloor heating is controlled from the cloud based on the weather. The underfloor thermostats in the house cannot be adjusted they are locked.

For hot summer days or to boost heating in winter there is an air conditioner in the living area.

The Dining area seats up to 8 guests, the open plan living area has a fireplace, two spacious couches, two armchairs and a flat screen Television

You need to sign in to your own streaming service such as Netflix on the TV.

(WIFI is not available for your own devices but there is connectivity via Vodacom and MTN, be aware that there are few towers in area and connectivity while mostly reasonable can be poor at times)

The open plan living space has big sliding doors that opens up most of the space, where you are inside, yet you are outside, and on colder days, the underfloor heating, and fireplace keeps you warm and toasty!

The house has 3 Bedrooms, each with their own bathrooms en – suit, and all bedlinen and bath towels are provided in each bedroom.

The main bedroom on the far East Wing has a walk-in cupboard, and open plan bathroom with bath and shower and the bedroom has an Extra Length King Size bed.

The first guest bedroom, on the West Wing, has its own shower and toilet en -suite, and has two Extra Length Single beds.

The second guest bedroom on the far West Wing has its own shower, toilet en-suite, and has a Extra Length King Size Bed.

The main bedroom, and both guest bedrooms, have wide open sliding doors, so all guests have optimum views and direct access to the outdoors! 

The Open Plan Living area, includes a fully equipped Kitchen, Scullery, Dining area, Fireplace, Television and Sitting Area. 

  • A Weber is supplied for barbecuing – barbecuing is only allowed in the back courtyard that leads off from the Bootroom, for fire hazard/ safety reasons.
  • The Utilities room has a dishwasher and a pantry.
  • The Bootroom is for changing your outdoor shoes for indoor shoes – the house does have underfloor heating, and the carpets make for a comfortable softer shoe option indoors, which we would appreciate, so that no mud is carried into the house.
  • The house has a double motor vehicle garage and we would appreciate it if this is kept closed at all times, as there is a connecting door, that leads directly into the house. 
  • The garage has a wood stockpile for use and a tumble dryer.
  • There is an outside shower with a view for those brave enough.
  • Paved road and drive to the front door, house is easily accessible.
  • Specific house – guest maintenance guidelines and Estate rules are provided with your reservationAn upfront deposit is required a week before your arrival, which is reimbursed within 7 days after you vacate the house, and a house inspection has been done by the owner/ agent. Details all supplied with your reservation booking.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE

Check in is at 2 pm and check out at 10 am.

The housekeeper is available on Friday and Monday as well as Saturday and Sunday for a half day. On departure day she will commence at 10am at the latest to begin cleaning.

To access the estate the reservations managers will provide you with an access pass on your mobile phone which is valid for your period of stay at the house.

Keys will be provided by arrangement, too please be returned when you leave as per arrangements made.

SECURITY

The estate has a security team and the house has panic buttons to call security if needed. Security conducts regular patrols 24 hours per day. 

The house has a camera system for the exterior and living room. This is not monitored while guests are at the house but there is a recording for security purposes. 

The alarm system is managed by the security firm in Johannesburg who are linked to the estate security teams. 

In the unlikely event of a snake in the house the estate managers are equipped to remove it. 

HOTEL

Walkersons is a luxury hotel and spa.

  • Flying Scotsman Restaurant for dinners.
  • The Terrace for breakfasts, lunches and afternoon tea and scones. 
  • Booking for meals is recommended.
  • There is a bar and a TV where sports events can be viewed. 
  • The spa offers massages and skin care.  Booking is recommended at the spa. 

WALKING, CYCLING, RUNNING

There are kilometres of roads, paved and unpaved paths.

  • No Motor bikes or quad bikes may be driven on the estate. 
  • Please give people fishing, space when alongside the dams. 

MOUNTAIN RESERVE

The mountain reserve is a pristine grass land setting where many of the animals gather during the day.

  • Access to the mountain reserve is via 4X4 vehicle only and access is a single mountainside track for good drivers only.
  • The Estate and Outcrop owners take no responsibility for any accidents on the Mountain Reserve. 
  • Please stay on the tracks on the mountain and leave it pristine. 

GAME

The regular visitors to the house are:

  • Various birds.
  • The Zebra.
  • Grey Duiker.
  • Genet.
  • A pair of side strip jackets live close to the house, please do not disturb them. 
Get the key from the main gate by the security guards and go for a drive to the top of the Mountain if you aren’t fit enough too climb it right to the top, and see all the herds of animals that like to graze on top of it!

FISHING

There are 16 dams, most of which are stocked and a stocked river. 

  • The house has four permits, for dam fishing, so four people may fish at a time. 
  • Only fly rods and barbless hooks may be used. 
  • Fishing is catch and release in all dams and river. 
  • River-fishing requires a Mapumalanga Parks Board permit. These are available from the hotel. 
  • The estate has a fishing bailiff and fishing without a licence means you can be fined by the estate and the national parks board. 
  • The estate treats fish removed from the estate as poaching. 
  • Please take the fishing permits with you when you fish, lost permits are charged for by the Estate.

PEACE AND QUITE

The estate places emphasis on peace and quiet. Estate management may ask guest’s who contravene this to leave the estate. 

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU

  • Clothes. You may have four seasons in one day. 
  • Hiking boots and running shoes. 
  • Your own bicycles. 
  • Cells phone chargers, there is almost always reception. 
  • Enough data for your personal devices.
  • Flyfishing rods or hire them in Dullstroom.
  • Hats and sunscreen.
  • Binoculars/Camera.
  • Food and drink.
  • Charcoal and firelighters if you intend to braai.

GROCERY SHOPPING

Dullstroom has a grocery shop, a butchery, a chemist, as well as a couple of convenience stores. There are a number of delicatessens and restaurants. Many shops sell trout. There are two filling stations in town.  

Dullstroom although you can drive right past it, as it has only one main road, with all business’s on this road, has most necessities!

INDEMNITY

It is the responsibility of the guests to have sufficient insurance for their persons, medical needs and possessions. Neither Walkersons Estate nor the homeowners accept any liability in this respect. 

Guests are responsible for any damages.
